A new web channel was launched today by MySpace (NWS-A) called "MySpace Celebrity," which will allow stars and fans to interact with one another, among a host of other things.
To begin with, at launch, the channel had over 300 celebrity profiles available, from a number of categories like actors, socialites, comedians, musicians and athletes.
Talking of the launch, MySpace President and Co-Founder Tom Anderson said, “MySpace Celebrity is Hollywood’s new home page. Celebrities have been using MySpace since the site’s launch and it’s a natural extension for us to now offer them an aggregated channel where they can be in control of their own image. We want MySpace users to connect with celebrities in the same way that they do with musicians.”
Some of the features of the channel will include celebrity videos, photos, blogs, behind-the-scenes content, charity work, new stars, questions and answers and news.
Starting the new channel off are Elijah Wood, Ellen Page, Balthazar Getty, Jenna Fischer, Kim Kardashian and Matthew McConaughey, who have interviews, blogs, photos and videos ready to view.
As mentioned here, if the celebrities interact with their fans and interested people on a steady basis, it could be a really popular and valuable site for everyone involved. That and enough exclusive content to keep people coming back should be a great advantage of the new channel.
When I looked around it and read, watched and listened to what was available, I really liked it. I think you will too.
