While fans of the series, Sci Fi and Fantasy will be ecstatic to hear this, even better, Sam Raimi will be the Executive Producer of the series, which should add a lot of flair to the production.
Disney-ABC Domestic Television and ABC Studios will bring the weekly series into the marketplace, ABC Studios producing and D-ABC distributing it.
"Terry Goodkind is a brilliant author and I fell in love with his books, reading them with my family," said Executive Producer Sam Raimi. "In discussing these incredible storylines and rich characters with my friends and partners Robert Tapert and Josh Donen, we agreed that 'Wizard's First Rule' would make an amazing television series - one that could be produced with compelling, self-contained episodes."
The series will be named "Wizard's First Rule," and as mentioned, will be based on the sweeping epic, and best-selling fantasy series of Terry Goodkind, "The Sword of Truth."
As with all good fantasy stories, this one looks at the change that an ordinary man goes thorugh as he must face forces set against the world. In this case a woodsman named Richard Cypher turns into a powerful leader who uses magic, and bands together with a mysterious women to battle the forces of evil, led by a murderous tyrant.
The book series, launched in 1994, has been an international bestseller.
Production on the TV series will begin in May, and will start off with 22 episodes.
