Two Main Apple announcements at Macword Expo connected to the showbiz industry:
Apple Movie Rentals
Apple (AAPL) confirmed at the Macworld Expo that it would be offering movies from all six major movie studios through its iTunes movie service. User will be able to immediately view the movie with a high speed Internet connection, or download it on to your computer, where you'll have 30 days to watch it.
Once you begin the movie, it must be watched within 24 hours. Prices are $3.99 for newer movies, and $2.99 for older ones. By the end of February there will be about 1,000 movies available to choose from. There'll be an additional $1 added if consumers want to view it in high-definition.
Apple TV Upgrade
For the Apple TV, new software is available which will empower users to use their TV to do all the work without having to access the computer; it can be used as a standalone device. While the television will still need to be connected to a computer network, once that accomplished, everything can be done from the TV if you want to. You can rent movies directly from the TV screen using the Movie Rentals feature mentioned above. You can also use the Apple TV remote to navigate around as well.
The former functions with the computer will still be part of the Apple TV experience.
Apple also announced the entry-level price of the set-top box had been dropped from $299 to $229.
