Rachel Bilson said in a recent interview that she almost dropped out of "The Last Kiss" because she refused to appear nude in the film.
A report from "People" cited a quote of Bilson's saying, "Movies can be sexy or sexual without showing things," Bilson, 26, said. "It's almost a deal breaker. The movie was rated R, and they like to put in nudity wherever they can, but I'm pretty strong willed and believe it can be avoided."
Hang on to that strong will Rachel. You shouldn't have to ever do something like that to do your job.
It's refreshing to see some of these actresses and actors battling back against the types of work that in many ways is created to pressure and demean them. Reese Witherspoon and Vince Vaughn recently refused to do a sex scene that was considered far more than needed, and as a result was cut from the project.
A dirty little secret in Hollywood is the attempt to use movies and other work to break down the defenses of some of the actors and actresses in order to control them, or cast them in roles they're uncomfortable with, to create the illusion they must do it if they want a successful career in Hollywood.
Bilson also said she's not interested in being a celebrity, but in building a career. That's a great balance to have in your life. Hollywood will eat actors and actresses up if they have the drive to be a celebrity. The cost is extremely high. It's better to consider it a craft and an art, rather than something to get you fame. Fame, in the end, is highly overrated.
It's good to see these actors and actresses taking a stand.
