It looks like Fox (NWS-A) definitely has another hit on its hands, as the premiere of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles" drew some huge numbers. We'll see if they hold after the Monday night showing at 9 p.m., which I think was far better than the Sunday night opener.
The network scored the best premiere viewership in a couple years, as it ended with a minimum of 18.3 million overall viewers, and a huge 7.6 rating/18 share in the 18-49 key demo. Those are estimates from Nielsen Media Research.
They've already got me as a fan, with the combination of action and development of characters already drawing me in. The three main characters of the show have been cast very well, and the fourth, Richard T. Jones, playing the FBI agent James Ellison will take a little more time to be developed, as we haven't got much more than a few glimpses of him in the first couple shows.
I had to get used to Lena Headey playing Sarah Conner in the first show, but I felt she did much better the second time around, and should be ok in the part.
The same with Summer Glau playing the cyborg protector of John Conner. She was a little weak in the first show, but in the second really shined. She's already getting a lot of positive buzz online. I think she was weakened on the first night by being given the line "Come with me if you want to live" as she was helping John out of a difficult situation. It almost ruined it by making it look silly.
Thomas Dekker plays the part of a teenaged John very well, with all the struggles typical of a high school student mixed in with his known destiny. The conflict between the two is being presented in an engaging way.
If they continue the story with the quality they have, this will be a big winner for Fox for some time to come.
