... and not because her character on Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, comes from it!
I really like how Summer Glau is building her career. Rather than doing the "star" thing, she's been quietly going about learning her craft and getting better and better at it. Every time I see her in a movie or TV series, she seems to take her acting to another level.
Even when she may be given a corny line to say, it's easy to forgive her, simply because of the presence she carries with her.
That's the hidden thing that seems to exude from her. Even when she's doing nothing on a screen, it seems you can feel her presence by her simply being there. She creates this sense of anticipation on what she's going to do next. Everything I've seen her in seems to bring that with her.
Another strength I think she has is her willingness to take a character on if she's asked, based on if she likes the character. Concerns about being typecast in a certain genre like Sci Fi doesn't bother her, as she mentions in this recent interview at TV Addict.
As a matter of fact, she has in place a demographic that can be extraordinarily faithful to those they really like. The followers of Sci Fi and fantasy stories are known to stick with their favorite actors and actresses over a long period of time. Summer Glau definitely already has that following behind her.
If she continues to work in the way she has, and stays focused on where she wants to go, I think she has a long, successful career in entertainment ahead of her.
She seems to have a long-term view of the industry, which is one of the prerequisites to success over a period of time. It looks like we'll enjoy watching Summer Glau work for years to come.
The next Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, the fourth in the series, will be on Monday, February 4. Here's the trailer for the next show:
