Reports about UB40 singer Ali Campbell that he is quitting the group to go out on his own, continue to circulate, and Campbell wants to put to rest that idea once and for all. He continues to assert it's the "intolerable" management battles that have been the impetus behind his decision.
He says on his personal website, "The reason for me leaving the band is that management difficulties, which have been ongoing for almost 5 years, had become intolerable. I have been deeply unhappy with administrative practices and with many decisions that have been made in recent years and I have an ongoing investigation into the handling of my business affairs in relation to UB40. Suffice to say I felt I had no other option but to resign from my band."
Campbell will stay with the reggae band until it completes a February tour in Australia, New Zealand and Uganda.
Ali was one of the founding members of the band, and has been together with them for 28 years. He said the problems in management have been going on for the last five years.
