For the 11th time in history, an actor or actress has been nominated for an Academy Award in a leading and supporting role in the same year, and Cate Blanchett is that 11th person.
She has been nominated for the Best Actress - which has surprised many people - for her lead role in "Elizabeth: The Golden Age," while receiving a supporting role nomination for "I'm Not There."
If she is able to win for both those roles, it will be the first time in the history of the Oscars it has happened.
Many have thought for her role playing Bob Dylan in "I'm Not There," she had a strong chance at an Oscar. Now that she's surprised people with the additional lead role in "Elizabeth," it's possible she has a real chance of making it, although some think the odds are against her.
I have to admit, with Blanchett being one of my favorite actresses, I'm probably a little biased here. But being put into the award pool for the lead role means there are definitely people behind her.
It wouldn't surprise me if she makes history here, and I'm one that definitely hopes she does it.
