Jane Fonda's comments on the "Today" show when talking with Meredith Vieira will end up getting NBC (NYSE:GE) fined, and has them back on their heels again with apologies; the third time in a very short time.
When talking about the nonsensical "The Vagina Monologues," Fonda referred to a time she was asked to perform a monologue with the slang term c*nt as the title. She didn't try to get around explaining the word without saying it, she just blurted it out for everyone to hear.
It wasn't long before damage control kicked in and Vieira came back in a few minutes saying this:
"We were talking about The Vagina Monologues and Jane Fonda inadvertently said a word from the play that you don't say on television. It was a slip and obviously she apologizes, and so do we. We would do nothing to offend the audience. So please accept that apology."
The network did end up covering their butt by eliminating the word on its feed to the other time zones, which will save them money, narrowing the problem to the East coast audience.
Even so, it's interesting to see that 70-year-old Fonda still hasn't grown up since her Hanoi Jane days. Watching her talk on the clip below, it's like she's clueless as to where she is and what she's saying.
Recently Chris Matthews and David Shuster had to apologize for perceived slights to Hillary Clinton, where Matthews suggested Clinton was only in the presidential race because of Bill Clinton's adultery, and Shuster of course for saying Clinton daughter Chelsea was being "pimped out" by Hillary and her campaign.
