The projection that this was going to be a troubling Oscar broadcast, as far as viewership goes came true, as the show was the lowest rated in its history on television.
When you consider the junk films offered up this year, and the fact that very few people went and saw them, Hollywood deserved what it got.
The broadcast wasn't able to do much better than a good night of "American Idol," drawing only an average of 32 million viewers Sunday night. They ended with an 18.7 rating and 29 share. Never in television history has the show dropped below a 20 rating and 30 share.
The result weren't just lower, they were embarrassingly lower, dropping by 14 percent over any other broadcast historically.
This is what happens when the ultra violent "critically acclaimed" type of movie is put in the spotlight. The vast majority of moviegoers don't see them, and have no interest. It shows the lack of wisdom those choosing the films had this year.
It seems Hollywood is doing this deliberately to show they're going to put out what they want, and reward themselves for it, regardless of what people going to see the movies think.
If they continue on this road, they'll see the awards show continue to plunge; not only in ratings, but in importance. People voted their will by ignoring the broadcast. I wonder if Hollywood heard what they had to say?
