A jury found Wesley Snipes not guilty of tax-fraud, but did convict him on three misdemeanor counts for not filing a tax return.
Much of this case comes from the idea that U.S. citizens don't have to pay taxes on income earned within the country, only on income earned outside it.
The other assertion is the IRS has no legal authority to collect taxes, with a number of people believing they aren't a true government entity.
Even though courts overall have rejected this argument, people still try to use it to protest paying taxes.
For Snipes, he faces up to three years in prison for not filing a tax return. If he had been convicted on all the charges, he could have be imprisoned for up to 16 years.
