California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger let Clint Eastwood know that his services were no longer needed on the state parks board after he opposed the idea of a toll road being set up on the road that goes through San Onofre State Beach in Orange County.
While Schwarzenegger denies he did it because of Eastwood's opposition, and says he wanted to give other people a chance to serve, the reality is it was for that reason, and that reason alone.
Even so, Eastwood say he doesn't hold any grudge or bad feelings toward Scwarzenegger over the situation, and Schwarzenegger called him and apologized over how the whole event went down.
Eastwood told Schwarzenneger not to be concerned over it saying, "I'm a grown person. I'm not a kid.
"The parks is a voluntary job, and it's just a job you do, when they need you. It was fun. . . . They make changes, and that's their prerogative. It's not like I need a day job."
Schwarzenneger must have been pretty mad about all this, as he even got rid of his wife's brother Bobby Shriver off the board, who had a good laugh with Eastwood over the whole situation.
The governor's proposal to close 48 state parks has caused a lot of opposition as well. To me, that's the one good thing coming out of this that should happen. What the heck is the government doing in the park business?
Sell them off to the private market and let something useful be done with them. The state and its taxpayers can't afford it, and so they need to be gotten rid of. They should never have been owned and managed by the government in the first place.
