The presidential ambitions of New York Governor, Democrat Eliot Spitzer, have come crashing to the ground, as he was mentioned in a wiretap as Client 9, before someone recognized who he was in a prostitution wiretap sting.
Spitzer is attempting to spin this as a personal and private matter, but that obviously doesn't hold water. He's prosecuted other prostitution rings in the past, communicating his disgust with their existence. To call his involvement in it a private matter is disingenuous and dishonest. He didn't hesitate to go after others involved with prostitution in a very public way, neither can he now call this a private matter for himself. It was illegal and public.
The upscale prostitution group is called the Emperors Club VIP, and was a secretive group catering to high-end clients.
While Spitzer will be the story for some time, you can bet a lot of very public figures are cringing and running scared if they are also named as those who have partaken in the operations as well. That could be a blockbuster story as more unfolds in the future.
It's a matter of whether the voices on the wiretaps will be able to be identified or not.
