George Lucas took the opportunity of showing the first clips publicly of "Star Wars: The Clone Wars" at ShoWest.
The animated film wasn't even in the mind of Lucas at one time, but when he was working on the upcoming animated TV show which bears the same name, he started to think of the idea of producing a movie as well.
The setting of the movie version will be between "Attack of the Clones" and "Revenge of the Sith," the number two and three films in the movie series.
It'll show more of the story and exploits of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker, before Skywalker went to the dark side of the force. There'll also be new characters introduced, including a young female Jedi apprentice of Anakin's named Ahsoki.
"It's like `Band of Brothers' in space, with Jedi," Lucas, 63, said. "You can tell lots of stories. They come up all the time."
The film is due to be released on August 15 of 2008, and soon after the television version will air on TNT and the Cartoon network; sometime in the fall.
