News is Kathie Lee Gifford has been hired by NBC (NYSE: GE) to anchor "The Today Show" during its fourth hour segment. With ratings for the show never really taking hold, this is probably a good move by NBC.
News industry subscription website FTV broke the news, and it said this on their blog:
"Several high ranking NBC insiders tell FTVLive that the Peacock is about to name Kathie Lee Gifford as a new host of the Today Show.
"'Gifford will work on the 4th hour of Today,' said our NBC source.
"If you are going to hire Gifford it makes sense to put her on the 4th hour of Today. Gifford is definitely going to 'skew older females' when it comes to ratings. The fourth hour is geared toward the stay at home women."
Some are already thrilled with the idea of having Gifford back on the airwaves, as she's great fodder for the gossip columnists, and many people are true fans of hers. Take that combination together and you get people that love or hate her watching the show. That's good news for NBC and Gifford.
The feelers I've put out seem to confirm that this is a true story, and Gifford is on her way back.
This should be a fun addition to the pretty boring hosts many have to endure now. If nothing else Gifford will liven things up again, and her fan base should come running back to see their former hero. It looks like lots of fun ahead.
Just don't mention Howard Stern to her.
