Sean Levert is the son of Eddie Levert, the leader singer for the O'Jays. He died after being taken to a hospital from the jail he was serving time in.
The prison warden Kevin McDonough said Levert was being closely watched by the guards because of strange behavior, which included hallucinating in the jail. Levert also had high blood pressure.
"There was nothing that would show any of this," McDonough said. "He had an illness while he was here and it turned into an emergency at that time."
An autopsy to determine the cause of death started this morning, and toxicology reports will take from four to six weeks to be finalized.
Levert, who was 39 at the time of his death, had a brother Gerald, who had died at the age of 40 from an accidental drug overdose.
Sean Levert had been part of the group LeVert with Gerald and a long time friend. They had several hits including "Casanova" and "Pop, Pop, Pop, Pop."
He was jailed for not paying child support.
