
Anthony Minghella, the Oscar-winning director of "The English Patient," died today at the age of 54.
Minghella, who had cancer, had undergone an operation in relationship to it, and everything seemed ok. But as Leslee Dart said, "The surgery had gone well and they were very optimistic. But he developed a haemorrhage last night and they were not able to stop it."
His cancer was located in the neck area and his tonsils.
Along with "The English Patient," Minghella also directed "Truly, Madly, Deeply," "The Talented Mr. Ripley," and "Cold Mountain."
Along with his wife Carolyn Choa, Minghella is survived by his son Max and daughter Hannah.
