News is coming out that CBS has taken out its scalpel and is excising a number of its workers across the company. TV Newser said they've been told it's across all divisions; "editorial, technical operations and the bureaus."
CBS (NYSE:CBS-A) is the most vulnerable to an economic slowdown, as they have relied on scripted programming more than any other network. Results have shown their vulnerability as well, with a 14.6 percent decline in earnings for the fourth quarter. Shares have also fallen by 19 percent this year.
Some of the owned and operated stations have been pummeled, according to Broadcasting & Cable, as they reported huge cuts at WBZ Boston, numbering 30; 17 at WBBM Chicago; and 14 at San Francisco's KPIX.
Other stations hit, according to B&C were WCBS in New York, KCNC Denver, and KOVR in Sacramento.
Among some notable names laid off across the company were Manny Ramos, Mark Malone, Rafael Romo, Bill Schechner, Diann Burns, Andrew Kirtzman, Mary Ann Childers, Katie McCall and Scott Weinberger.
