John Marzano, a former first round pick of the Boston Red Sox in the 1984 amateur Draft, died at the age of 45 after falling down a flight of stairs at his home in Philadelphia. It's possible that a heart attack preceded the fall.
When news of Marzano's death became known, there was a moment of silence at the Saturday night game at Fenway.
Along with playing for the Red Sox, Marzano also played for the Rangers and Mariners.
He was currently a commentator on the popular MLB.com Web site; his second year in that position.
"John was a beloved member of our team, a personable, terrific friend to all with whom he worked," said Bob Bowman, CEO of MLB Advanced Media. "He was an engaging, informed interviewer. His energy, knowledge of the game and comedic touch produced admirable results. We miss him dearly already."
Surviving Marzano are his wife, Terri, daughters Dominique and Danielle, and two grandchildren.

May his soul rest in peace.
