A conflict in the hallways of the studio used to tape the Howard Stern show ended with Stern sidekick Artie Lange walking out after offering his resignation to Stern, which Stern quickly accepted.
The outburst centered around an assistant of Lange's, who was setting up a travel schedule for Lange in a scheduled visit to Amsterdam. The battle ended with Lange lashing out verbally at his assistant Teddy, and then eventually attempting to physically attack him, when at that time others in the studio had to intervene.
Lange was so enraged that he said Teddy would be "dead" if he had been able to get at him and he would have ended up in jail.
Stern smelling an opportunity, when told about the escalating incident, asked Teddy on the air to talk about it.
Eventually Stern said he couldn't justify the actions of Lange, and Lange said he couldn't guarantee he could stop from a repeat performance in the future. Stern responded by saying he couldn't have Lange stay around under those circumstances.
It was at that time Lange offered his resignation and walked out saying to Stern, "I'm not a good person ... I gotta leave ... I love you." Stern accepted the resignation, but asked Lange to leave and take some time to cool off.
Just another day at the Howard Stern office.
