The casualties in the changing media landscape continue, as sportscasting legend Bob Lobel has received notice his services will no longer be needed at WBZ-TV's Channel 4. Also leaving with Lobel will be entertainment reporter Joyce Kulhawik and newsman Scott Wahle, according to station spokeswoman Ro Webster.
All of this is based on the increasing pressure on traditional media outlets who are losing ad revenue to new digital media, as well as the slowing economy.
This isn't insignificant, in that Lobel has been with the station from 1979, Kulhawik from 1981, and Wahle from 1989. They were probably among some of the more highly paid employees for the company.
It hasn't been determined when they'll make their last on-air appearances at this time.
We are probably at the beginning of an extraordinary shakeout of the media industry across the United States.
