The story that grabbed the headlines in 2007 has come to a conclusion for Mechelle Linehan, as she was sentenced to 99 years in prison for being the mastermind behind the plot to kill her fiance to get life insurance money.
What made the story intriguing was prosecutors said Linehan used the plot from the film "The Last Seduction," as the script to have 36-year-old Kent Leppink murdered. That film has starred Linda Fiorentino.
Superior Court Judge Philip Volland said concerning sentencing Linehan to the maximum time allowed, that "In my mind I can find no principled distinction between the puppet who pulls the trigger and the puppeteer who pulls the strings. And in my judgment, Ms. Linehan was the puppeteer who pulled the strings."
The shooter in the murder was Linehan's boyfriend, John Carlin III, who also was sentenced to 99 years in prison for the crime.
