Michael Conner Humphreys was the actor who played the role of young Forrest Gump in the movie, and now that his enlistment in the army is ending on June 4, Hollywood has already beckoned him back to the industry, as he already has landed an independent film role, in which he'll play another soldier.
Humphreys spent a year in the Anbar Province in Iraq, and now has been transferred to fort Riley. He said concerning his tour of duty over there, "It was a good experience and you saw a lot of bad things, a lot of people got hurt over there," he said. "There was definitely a lot of violence. I just hope that we did some good. In the end, I learned a lot and I hope it made me a better person."
His new film will be called "Pathfinders," which tells the story of the 504th Parachute Regiment which preceded the invasion of Normandy on D-Day. They went in first to prepare the way for the coming invasion, by finding the best route to take. He will play the role of Eddie Livingston, one of the actual pathfinders.
While Humphreys had a number of offers after the Forrest Gump role, he decided to stay in school and grow up in the South. He and his parents really didn't have any interest in moving to LA., said Humphreys.
He says that if the acting starts to pick up for him that'll be great, and if not, that would be ok too. "It's a small start. I'm still going to go to school at the University of North Alabama, but if (acting) snowballs and it goes somewhere else, that'd be fine," he said.
