The unlikely run of Syesha Mercado came to an end last night on American Idol, as fans voted for David Cook and David Archuleta to face off in the Idol finale this year. Several times during the reality show competition Mercado was close to being voted off.
David Archuleta is a 17-year-old piano-playing balladeer, while David Cook is a 25-year-old bartender singing and playing alternative rock.
The popular show has suffered a setback this season with viewership, as 21.8 million people tuned in for Tuesday's show, while 22.9 million viewed the Wednesday competition. Both of those were down significantly from the last 3 to 5 years. Last year the show drew over 30 million viewers on a consistent basis.

What was interesting about last nights show was it was overshadowed by the performance of Fantasia, a former Idol winner, who exploded onto the stage with a head of red hair, along with three backup singers, singing her song "Bore Me."
Almost immediately the Internet was buzzing more about her performance, with commentors either loving or hating it. The finalists and the voting, which usually spurs much of the competition was left by the wayside as people wanted to let it be known what they thought of Fantasia's performance.
As far as the two remaining contestants go, they have been the favorites pretty much from the beginning of this season, and no one is surprised they are the last two standing.
It even as that also would not be desirable comment, simply to not like me such music.....
