Rapper Remy Ma will get eight years in prison for shooting an acquaintance in the stomach. Makeda Barnes Joseph was shot while the two fought over $3,000 in July, 2007, outside a NYC nightclub. Ma could have been incarcerated for over 25 years. Joseph had asked the judge to sentence her to do a lot of time.
When the sentence was announced by State Supreme Court Justice Rena Uviller, Ma's fiancé, and rapper "Papoose," freaked out, and had to be restrained and escorted out of the courtroom by bailiffs.
He said while being restrained, "Get the f--k off me. F--k y'all. F--k jail," the performer yelled as the hearing ended and bailiffs escorted him out of the Manhattan court. "I don't care. Lock me up. Lock me up. Take me to jail. Arrest me. It's all about money."
Last week Papoose attempted to bring a handcuff key into Ma when they were supposed to get married in jail.
The lawyer for Ma, Ivan Fisher, said that she was distraught because of her concern for her son, who is 7-years-old.
Let's see. She takes out a gun and shoots somebody she knows over $3,000, while out clubbing, and she is now concerned about her son? A little late Ma.
The judge said that Remy Ma has a history of violence, and not only showed no remorse over her actions, but tried to make herself out to be the victim.
Fisher says he plans to appeal the sentencing.
Ma was convicted of two counts of first-degree assault, criminal possession of a weapon, and attempted coercion.
She was found not guilty on charges of witness tampering and gang assault.
