...or should I say, for "provoking discrimination and racial hatred." Gee, all she said was Muslims were destroying France.
In a letter in December 2006 to then Interior Minister Nicolas Sarkozy, who is now the French President, Bardot wrote that she was "tired of being led by the nose by this population that is destroying us, destroying our country by imposing its acts."
Bardot, who is an animal activist, was referring to the killing of sheep by Muslims at a feast called Aid el-Kebir.
The result of the conviction was she would be fined $23,325, as well as pay $1,555 in damages to a French so-called anti-racism group called MRAP, the source of the lawsuit.
While I have no concern over Brigitte Bardot, as I've considered her a fanatic and nonsensical for years, the idea of being fined in the way she was for simply stating her opinion is ridiculous and dangerous to me.
The very fact that the case went this way seems to imply that she was right about what she said. The French did this because they were afraid of reprisals from the Muslim fanatics.
In this particular case, it was two fanatics going at each other, and the more dangerous of the two won.

Here, here! This case of MRAP´s hurt feelings being soothed litigiously is another highlight of political correctness gone wild. It is factual the increasing Muslim population is altering French mores. To punish one as racist for stating that in a letter appears to me to be a knee-jerk reaction to appeasement.
