When the last film in the "Mummy" trilogy, The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, was offered to Brendan Fraser again, and he heard that his co-star Racehl Weisz wasn't going to play the role of Evie, he wasn't sure he wanted to sign up for the project again.
Fraser said when he read through the script for the first time, he pictured Weisz in the role as he read it.
He said, "I felt Rachel's absence when I read the screenplay for the first time. We were partners, friends, colleagues, and I couldn't read the screenplay and not think about hearing her say it this way, or that way. We had the chemistry."
I, for one, am also going to miss Rachel in the role, but I'm one of her fans, so it's a case of it maybe affecting me more than someone who is a fan of the series, rather than those playing the roles.

Still, Fraser said the story continues on without any quality being lost because of the absense of Weisz.
Replacing Weisz in the role is Maria Bella. If Bella can get believably offer some of the repoire that Fraser and Weisz had onscreen, most of us won't take it too hard. If she can't it's going to be difficult for fans to embrace it like in the past.
Jet Li will play the role of the Emperor Han; John Hannah returns as Evie's brother Jonathan Carnahan; Luke Ford takes up the role of Alex; Russell Wong has the part of Ming Guo; and Michelle Yeoh will play Zi Juan.
The film will be released on August 1.
