The venue chosen to reveal the final date of Jay Leno's tenure at "The Tonight Show," was the TV critics press tour, where Jay Leno came in disguise as a reporter and asked the question immediately of NBC co-presidents Marc Graboff and Ben Silverman.
Graboff responded to the scripted moment be saying Leno's last night on "The Tonight Show' will be May 29, 2009. After the weekend break, Conan O'Brien will make his first appearance as the host on Monday, June 1, 2009.
You can see Leno in disguise below (it really is him), as he asks the question concerning his last day on the job.
Jimmy Fallon, Conan O'Brien's replacement on "Late Night," will start an online version of the show sometime in the fall, in an attempt to hone his skills and get people used to the time period. It's also hoped when Fallon takes over, there'll be a legion of Internet fans that migrate to the TV show when he does.
For some reason, there'll be a gap between the time Conan O'Brien leaves "Late Night" and Jimmy Fallon takes his place. O'Brien is scheduled to leave the show in early 2009.
Maybe they feel Fallon needs some seasoning before he steps in; the reason for the Internet launch.
