Nielsen Media Research revealed that in the U.S. the average number of television sets now outnumbers the number of people living in the home. They say that there are now 2.73 sets in a regular American home while 2.55 people as an average live together.
They also added that 50 percent of American homes have three or more TVs and just around 19 percent have only one.
The average home has the television set on for over eight hours a day, yet is watched individually for four hours and 35 minutes.
People do watch more television, but not the big networks as niche cable broadcasters have eaten into their market share for years. Prime time viewing has remained the same over the last decade with people watching only four more minutes then 10 years ago. The major factor in the 3 percent growth over last year, interestingly, has been teen girls watching late night or early morning TV.
